30th Annual Festival of Lights Parade

It's Here!

The Festival of Lights Parade is Saturday December 6, 2014 starting at 5:50 P.M. in downtown Colorado Springs. The theme for this year's parade is "Through the Eyes of a Child."

Grand Marshal - Jim Downing

At 101-years-old, Retired Navy Lt. Jim Downing, is the oldest survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was eating breakfast on shore when the USS West Virginia was attacked. He quickly said goodbye to his new bride, Morena, and headed to help put out fires on board. Jim also began memorizing the names of the dead on board so he could write to the families of those killed saying he was with them in their final moments. Jim was also the captain of the USS Patapsco and was exposed to extreme levels of radiation when the US tested a hydrogen bomb near his ship during the Korean War. Jim lives in Colorado Springs and is very active in his ministry with the Navigators, a worldwide Christian Ministry.

The Festival of Lights Parade is a non profit organization, established to ensure that the citizens of the Pikes Peak Region are able to enjoy this wonderful local tradition each December. The organization relies heavily on grants and sponsors to help offset some of the costs associated with producing the parade, including, police overtime, cleanup, insurance and band stipends. Now in our 30th year, the parade is turning to you, the individual, to assist us in keeping this tradition alive and help enhance the quality of life in our region.
